Start by opening a new file, 16 million colors, with the backgroundcolor you wish to use. Here I've used a light blue-green.
 
 
 
 

Lay down some text in a contrasting color and center it in your window.Be sure that there is plenty of room around your text. Leave the text selected.
 
 
 
 
 

Now expand your selection by about 10 pixels (Selection, Modify:Expand). You should see the marquis move out from your text.
 
 
 
 

Now apply the Blade Pro preset Outer Bevel. The name of the fileyou need to load is soe_outbev.q9q. This gives the bevelled effect. Onlight colors it sometimes also darkens the background color noticeably.Deselect your text when you are done (Selections:None)
 
 
 
 
 
 

To fix the darkening effect caused by the preset, we make a slightadjustment. Add a new Layer (Layers:New). In the properties box that popsup, change the Blend Mode. if you are using a light color, set the modeto Color. If you are using a darker color, set the mode to Hue. After youhave created your new layer, Click on your Flood Fill tool. Set the Filltype to Solid Color and fill the new layer with your original backgroundcolor. With some colors this will seem to have no effect at all, but withother colors the change will be startling. With this blue background, notmuch effect waas observed, but for the title above this step was absolutelynecessary.
 
 
 
 
 

To finish, lay down some text again and  add any embellishmentsyou like (here I've used my Chrome preset.) When you are done, go to Selections:Promote Selection to New Layer.
