This tutorial is pretty straightforward. Before you start you'llneed to download my Blue Jewels preset file.

Opena new graphic, with a white background and 16 million colors. Create anew layer to work in (Layers:New. Keep the default settings) I like touse a second layer to create my graphics, so that the bottom layer is availableto adjust my background color. Click on your Shape Select tool and setit to Circle. Make sure that Antialias is checked. Now draw a circle abit smaller than you want your jewel to be. The antialias setting willexpand your selection slightly. Now set your foreground color to white,and fill in the circle.

Nextwe get the jewel effect. Go to Image, Plugins, Flaming Pear: Blade Pro.Load the Blue Jewel preset file by clicking on the top CD, and browsingto find your Environments and Textures folder. The name of the file youare looking for is soebjewel.q9q. After the preset loads, you should geta nice blue jewel effect. When you are done, be sure to leave the areaselected. The blue jewel is nice, but we don't always want blue. Ratherthan use 20 different presets, we can use the layers feature of PSP 5 toget almost any color we want.

Create a new layer (Layer: New) and set the Blend Mode to Color.Now set your foreground color to whatever you like and just fill in theselected area with your Flood Fill tool. Many different colors are possible.
 
 
 

Sometimes other blend modes can have a great effect. The first imagebelow was done using the Color Mode and an orange/brown fill, the otherwas done using the Hard Light Mode. Experiment to see which works bestwith your graphic.
 
 
 

Another interesting effect can be achieved by applying the presetover a color other than white. This can give deeper, darker colors. Thejewels below were created using purple, green, and red as the startingcolors.
 
 
 

Place your jewels in an appropriate setting, and you're on your way!
