Open a new file, 400 pixels wide by 150 high, 16 million colors,with a white background. Select as your foreground color RGB 252,180,46.Add some text in this color. For this effect I think a nice flowing fontlooks best. The font used here is called Calligrapher, and the size is80 point.
Now go to Image, Effects:Cutout. Set the shadow color to black,the opacity to 90, the blur to 9, and the vertical and horizontal offsetsboth to -6.
Next, we apply a the Hotwax coating twice (Image, Other:Hot WaxCoating). This adds depth to the lettering, but also makes the image verydark.
To make the text come out with a metallic look, we have to lightenit up a bit. Go to the Color menu and choose Adjust: Hue, Saturation Lightness.Set the Lightness to 100%. Repeat this process three times, for a totalof 300%
Now we tweak the color just a bit to get that gold look. We usethe Colorize filter from Greg's Factory Output, Vol II. If you don't haveGreg's filters, you can download them from my main tutorials page. Slidethe blue control down to 53. Set the background color to white, and saveas a transparent GIF.
