This method is very similar to the pastel background technique, but with a few variations. It gives a colored background with a cloth orcanvas look. Start with a new file, white with 16 million colors. I beganwith a file that was 200 x 200. Now choose your spray can, set the sizeto about 15 - 25, and spray a variety of colors. You can use shades ofthe same color, or completely different colors. When you're done you shouldhave something like this:

Now go to Image, Deformations: Wind. It doesn't matter if you selectfrom the right or from the left, but set the strength to 20. When thisis finished, choose Image, Rotate. Select 90 degrees. Next repeat the winddeformation. You should apply Wind four times, rotating the image 90 degreesbetween each application. You should get something that looks like a close-upof a watercolor.

Next, go to Image, Edge Filters: Edge enhance. Then apply Edge EnhanceMore. This should give you the subtle woven texture.

To complete your project, use the Shape Select tool and outline asquare, then go to Image, Special Effects: Create Seamless Pattern.

If the pattern is just too subtle for you, try using Edge Enhanceor Edge Enhance More again. This gives a very complicated geometric patternof lines, which is extremely pronounced if you use Edge Enhance More.

Or if you want it more three dimensional, switch your foregroundcolor to white and hit it with a Hotwax coating. Then select your squareand create a seamless pattern.
